Roller Skating with Style – Roja by Moja Museum

If you are active on social media such as Instagram and TikTok, you must have heard or seen –at least once– a place called Moja Museum. Unlike the traditional museums that present objects from the past, Moja Museum presents lots of modern interactive displays that suit the millennials’ need for their social media.

The Moja Museum, located in the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (GBK) has three different interactive exhibitions to visit. The first exhibition, Golf by Moja, is the exhibition where its visitors can play minigolf. The next one is called MoPaint, a place where visitors can paint on canvases and walls of the museum. The last one is called Roja by Moja, here, the visitors can play roller skates in the rink provided by the museum. Each of the three exhibitions has its uniqueness and interesting places for pictures. Recently, I had a chance to visit one of the three exhibitions, Roja by Moja.

The idea to visit Moja Museum came from one of my friends who previously had visited the museum before. He showed me and my other friends the pictures of the place which seemed to be a really interesting place to visit. So, we arranged the plan and decided to pick Roja by Moja because most of my friends never played roller skates before.

You can purchase the tickets for the Moja Museum online through their official website www.mojamuseum.com or you can also buy the tickets on the spot. Us, we chose to buy our tickets online because we wanted to secure the spot since the capacity for the visitors was limited due to the health protocol for COVID-19. Buying the tickets was pretty simple. All I need to do was visit the website mentioned above, select the exhibition I want to visit (Roja by Moja), select the date and the timeslot, and lastly, checkout.

In choosing the timeslot for Roja by Moja, there are three options for the time of visit. Starting from 11:00, 14:00, and lastly 17:00. I chose the 11:00 timeslot for my group because we had other places to go after visiting the museum. For information, there are price differences for the tickets on weekdays and weekends. On the weekdays, Roja by Moja will cost you Rp 125,000 while on the weekends, it will cost you Rp 135,000. Since I was playing on Sunday, it cost me Rp 135,000 for each person. The duration for the visitors to play during each session was 2,5 hours.

On the main day, we arrived at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium just on time. There were nine of us. After parking the cars, we walked for a few minutes toward the main stadium where the museum is located. Finding the museum was pretty easy because there were lots of people for us to ask for directions. After we passed the outside cage of the main stadium, the blue banner with “Moja Art & Space” can easily be spotted from afar. Before going to the museum, there was a security check at the front gate.

Here, we need to scan our PeduliLindungi and security also checked whether we were wearing masks or not. After passing the gate, I was greeted by a huge, long white alley with a registration table at the end. After we arrived at the registration table, the staff asked us about our tickets. After scanning the tickets, we retrieved a long purple paper that turned out to be the tickets. It looked like a concert ticket where you strap it on your hand as a bracelet.

After we got our tickets, we were told to go to the next room on the right which looked like a cinema hall with white-pearl-colored walls. Inside the room, there were lots of colorful cushions for people to sit on. Several meters straight from the entrance, there was a counter table selling souvenirs, popcorn, and cakes, just like in the movie cinemas. On the left side part of the room, was a door with a sign telling us that it was an entrance to the golf exhibition. The same can also be found on the right side, the entrance to MoPaint. Our destination, the Roja by Moja was located on the right side of the counter table, a purple square room with 9 disco balls can be seen hanging on the ceiling.

After going inside the purple room, we took another turn to the right, to another counter table with lots of white roller skates displayed behind. At this table, the staff asked for our shoe sizes before giving us the roller skates. The staff also gave us a large plastic zip bag to put our shoes inside, the plastic had a number similar to the number on our tickets. You can also ask for a helmet and decker here. After swapping my shoe to roller skate, I passed the plastic bag with my shoe inside to the counter table for the staff. Then, I and the group went inside the rink.

While walking inside, the path was filled with a carpet to prevent those who wore the roller skate from slipping. Inside, on the right side was this large rink with lots of mirrors on the walls, clearly a place where people skate. On the right side, was a tribune for people to sit. When entering the rink, a staff member was ready to give us a helping tool. I did not take it as I already had experience in playing inline skating. Music was blasting inside, the place had lots of neon lights and lots of great spots for people to take photos. Spots with themes such as the kitchen, inside of the train wagon, to abstract places with the multi-colored mosaic room can be found inside.

The place also has a second floor, to go up, we need to walk again on the carpet to the top. Unlike the first floor where the rink was rectangle-shaped, the second floor was a circle arena. I found that the second floor is superior compared to the bottom floor for the photo objects. On the second floor, lots of dedicated rooms were created for photo spots, people even need to take a turn here when they wanted to take a photo. The most favorite spots seemed to be the white hexagon-shaped place and the rainbow jukebox. The group and I had a great time there.

In my opinion, Roja by Moja really filled its main purpose as a museum. As a person who already had an experience in skating, I always tried to speed up when skating. However, in this place, it seemed that I would not be able to do that. The place was crowded and most of the people inside held lots of helping tools (the tool was large). Even with that, I still heard lots of noises coming from the people falling down there (the staff was really good here! They were always ready to help anyone who fall). For visitors who really intended to play roller skate, unfortunately, it was not the place. As I said before, it was a museum in the first place. For taking good pictures, Roja will surely fill up your gallery.
